Privacy Policy

SharpClass ("we", "us") is operated by Emmanqubic in South Africa. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how we comply with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

1. What we collect

• Account info from your sign-in (Google, Apple, email & password, or phone number): name, email, profile photo URL where provided, and your Firebase user ID. With Sign in with Apple you may choose to hide your email, in which case we only receive Apple's private relay address.
• Learning data: XP, level, streak, hearts, achievements, subjects practised, quiz history.
• Optional info you give us: grade, school, display name.
• Technical data: device type, OS, app version, anonymised crash & analytics events.

2. Why we collect it

• To run your account and save your progress.
• To populate the public leaderboard (display name, XP, level, streak, school only).
• To improve the product (anonymised analytics, crash reporting).
• To comply with our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information.

3. Lawful basis (POPIA s11)

We process personal information with your consent (when you sign in and accept this policy) and where it is necessary for performance of our service to you.

4. Sharing

• Google Firebase (Auth, Firestore) — data hosting on Google Cloud.
• AI providers (Gemini, DeepSeek, Qwen, OpenAI) — your typed quiz/tutor/study prompts are sent server-side for AI generation. No identifiers are sent.
• Paystack — payment processing for web subscriptions.
• Apple / Google Play — in-app subscription processing on mobile.
• Google Analytics 4 — pseudonymous usage analytics with IP anonymisation.
• Vercel — application hosting and serverless API.

5. International transfers

Data may be processed outside South Africa (Google / Vercel data centres). We rely on the recipient's safeguards equivalent to POPIA.

6. Children under 18

This service is intended for high school learners aged 13–18. Learners under 13 require verified parental consent — please contact us. Parents may request access, correction or deletion of a minor's data at any time.

7. Your POPIA rights

You may at any time request to access your personal information; correct or delete it; withdraw consent; object to processing; or complain to the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za).

8. Retention

We keep your data while your account is active. Deletion requests are processed within 30 days.

9. Security

Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Data at rest in Firestore is encrypted by Google. Server API keys are held only on the server and never shipped to your browser.

10. Changes

We will post material changes here and notify you in-app where required.
